The optimal nutrition plan, simply put, is an intentional shift from man made foods to God made foods. The optimal nutrition plan is for those who will not be satisfied with mediocrity, for those who are ready to make a lifestyle change, for those who are looking to get well and maintain superior health, free of the chronic diseases that plague Americans. On this journey of wellness, you must eat like your life depends on it.
Let me tell you why.
Americans are spending 40 percent of their food purchases by eating out. The standard Western diet consists of foods that are processed, refined, concentrated, sugared, salted, and chemically engineered to produce taste sensations high in calories and low in nutrients. The cattle are fattened in feedlots instead of pastures, neglected exercise and subjected to antibiotics and growth enhancers, yielding larger cattle that produce steaks containing nearly twice as much fat as range-fed cattle. These farming conveniences are afforded at the cost of the consumer’s health, and while we are eating to survive, what we are eating is killing us.
Man Made Food: For the sake of this article, we will define ‘man made foods’ as everything altered, tainted, manipulated by man and/or man made products (chemicals).
Man made foods, neither animal products nor processed foods, contain antioxidants, bioflavonoids, caratenoids, folate, vitamin C, vitamin K or those thousands of phytochemicals that are essential for cellular normalcy. Most of the animal products consumed such as cheese and milk are exceptionally high in saturated fat which correlates with cancer incidence worldwide. Consumption of excess animal products raises cholesterol and causes heart disease. To add insult to injury, much of the processed foods eaten are rich in trans-fat, a man-made fat that is also linked to cancer and heart disease.
Thanks to the evolution of marketing in the food industry, many man-made foods can be disguised as healthy. Be mindful that every facet of a food product has an extensive marketing strategy behind it, from the brand name, color, and wording on the label, position on the shelf, placement within the store, to TV commercials, lofty celebrity endorsements, and political agenda. A simple rule of thumb to follow is, if it has a TV commercial, it’s a man made food and doesn’t belong in your diet except on the rare occasion.
In America, significant heart disease only began to emerge after World War I, and became rampant after World War II, when people could afford diets rich in animal products and when the food industry began producing highly processed, genetically modified foods crammed with calories, chemicals, and emptied of nutrition.
“This isn’t nature’s way. We weren’t meant to die in such numbers from heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and from cancer of the lungs, breast, prostate, and colon,” says Hans Diehl, M.D in his article The Western Diet Today and Heart Disease.
Most parents purposely buy, prepare and relentlessly nag their children to eat vegetables because they love them. Much like earthly parents, our Heavenly Father purposely designed foods for our wellness and commanded us to eat them because He loves us…. “Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” – Genesis 1:29
God Made Food: For the purpose of this article, we will define God made food as pure, unadulterated, organic foods in their most natural state.
According to a published study, lower dietary inflammation was associated with those following a high-fiber, low-fat, plant-based diet. This type of lifestyle may help treat chronic diseases linked with inflammation, such as asthma, Crohn’s disease, chronic sinusitis, mental health issues, premature aging, periodontal disease, obesity, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancer, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative Colitis.
Whole-food, plant-based nutrition is scriptural and the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle. Regardless of where you are, God is propelling you forward, and the energy necessary to thrive in His work requires the natural carbohydrates that come from complex, plant-based foods, powerful, organic cereal grasses and their essential vitamins, minerals and proteins that promote overall good health and longevity.
Plant based phytochemicals and anti-oxidant nutrients are essential, not optional.
More than 12,000 recently identified phytochemical nutrients in natural (unprocessed) plant foods has scientists in awe as these compounds work synergistically to detoxify cancer-causing compounds, deactivate free radicals and enable DNA repair mechanisms. These 12,000 or so phytochemicals also play a major role in human immune system defenses. (NOTE: DNA REPAIR… More on this in Dr. Tessler’s video about how Greens Beat Genes.)
You are endowed with the God-given ability to change your life, you can literally change the expression of your genes, and it simply begins with a decision. Decide today that you’re going to take control and change your life. God empowers you to eat like your life depends on it!
Many diseases can be avoided if we stick to the wholesome food that God provided for us to eat. It just takes knowing what to eat and a determination to stick to those foods.
Here are some simple guidelines for a God made food centered lifestyle:
- Foods can be summarized in three major categories: animal products, processed foods, and unprocessed plant foods. The key to a God made food centered lifestyle is the reduced consumption of both animal products and processed foods while increasing consumption of unprocessed plant foods.
- Forget Calories and start analyzing the nutrient density of the foods that you eat. For an in depth explanation of nutrient density read Joel Fuhrman, M.D.’s explanation.
- The largest portion (by volume) of your diet should be unprocessed plant foods that have the highest nutrient-per-calorie density. Below are unprocessed plant foods ranked by their approximate nutrient-per-calorie density, ranked highest to lowest.
1. Green and other Low-Starch Vegetables
2. Beans or Legumes
3. Fresh Fruit
5. Starchy Vegetables (mostly Root Vegetables)
“As you can see, to achieve the highest nutritional excellence, you need to eat many more servings of green and other low-starch vegetables, beans, and fresh fruit than starchy vegetables and grains,” explains Joel Fuhrman, M.D.
“When we fill ourselves up with great tasting high nutrient food it shuts down our drive to overeat. A body deprived of vital micronutrients will continue to seek food. A body full of high nutrient food will be satisfied with fewer calories. It will happen naturally and you won’t even be aware of it.”
God knew what He was doing…. 😉

Health Care Vs. Sick Care
This post references Hans Diehl, M.D. and Joel Fuhrman M.D. in articles written for Christian Care Ministry, Inc., a Florida non profit corporation administering Medi-Share, a healthcare sharing ministry program that provides a biblical, affordable, penalty free alternative to the health insurance industry.
Jesus healed in almost every town he visited, as healing was the center of His ministry. Medi-share continues his vision for the Church by helping Christians share in each other’s medical needs.
As you focus on a God made food centered lifestyle in your wellness journey, I highly encourage you to reinforce your efforts with Medi-share medical sharing instead of traditional health insurance that focuses on sickness rather than wellness.
